A holiday hot spot for everyone the Gold Coast contains a numerous amount of activities for visitors.  Sometimes sorting out what’s excellent to what’s incredible can be tricky. We asked our Retail Manager, Sarah, who happens to be a local, for some expert advice. Here are her five favourite recommendations to visitors so they can experience the Gold Coast like a local.

Conserving native wildlife for over 70 years, the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is world-renowned. It is also committed to promoting the positive welfare of all animals in their care. It caters for people of all ages, making it a great place to experience incredible animals.

Sarah says ‘When my kids were younger, I’d take them in just to feed the lorikeets after school and they still talk about their amazing wildlife adventures!’

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a place to make unforgettable memories and is easy to get to from Gold Coast International Airport on the public bus, number 777.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding like a Local

The Currumbin Boatshed is located along the banks of the Currumbin creek and is Sarah’s favourite place to recommend.  Even if you’re just on the Gold Coast for a day, this place lets you experience what the locals love and Sarah can not recommend the awesome Boatshed team enough.

They hire everything you’ll need to have an adventure on the creek including fishing equipment, kayaks and surfboards. Stand up paddle boards (SUP’s) are also available for hire. Sarah suggests this as a must do Gold Coast experience.

Watch the video below to see how you can stand up paddle board.  The 777 public bus will drop you along the Gold Coast highway, then you’ll find the Currumbin Boatshed a short 10 to 15 minute stroll along the creek towards the hinterland.

Experience

Miami Marketta

Miami Marketta is a laneway dining experience that should not be missed.  Open to the public every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for great street food from a range of nationalities, a wide selection of gorgeous wines and full-bodied craft beers. Incidentally, after a busy week you might find Sarah relaxing at the Marketta located a short stroll from the Gold Coast Highway at Nobby’s Beach.

Sarah says ‘There’s always some great live local talent up on stage belting out some cool tunes. They often have big name acts too! Recently they’ve had Xavier Rudd, the United Nations and The Cat Empire.’

Because the venue is family friendly you’ll often find kids dancing at the front of the stage. Check out facebook events page for upcoming events.

Check out Dreamworld

Sarah’s family’s favourite theme park is Dreamworld beacuse they love visiting the tigers on Tiger Island. This is a full day of adrenalin, laughs and entertainment. Your day pass gets you into and onto all the attractions too!!
