G’day from WA!

We find locals are the best guides when exploring a place for the first time, so we asked our Retail Manager in WA, Helen, to help us out by sharing her top 5 places to visit around Perth in Western Australia.

Number 5 – Caversham Wildlife Park

Only 25 minutes from Perth Airport, Caversham Wildlife Park offers visitors one of the best wildlife experiences in Australia.  Maybe that’s why it keeps getting certificates of excellence from trip advisor.  Helen suggests this is a great way to see wildlife safely, especially the Western Grey Kangaroo, a real crowd favourite.

Perth Airport Baggage Storage and Wrapping

Number 4 – The Camfield

Known as Australia’s largest pub, the Camfield is located on the banks of the Swan River and only 100 metres from Optus Stadium.  It offers much in the way of food and drink, with a large variety of food options and over 175 beer taps and an onsite micro-brewery.  Kids and pets are also welcome 😊.  Helen recommends ordering the Steak Sandwich and on Fridays you might even find the Baggage Storage team relaxing there after a hard days work.

Hillarys' Stillwater Beach near Perth

Stillwater Beach at Hillarys Boat Harbour

Number 3 – Hillarys Boat Harbour

As a Hillarys local, Helen can’t recommend Hillarys Boat Harbour enough!  And rightly so.  For many years Hillarys Boat Harbour has been a one-stop shop for family fun and entertainment.  Filled with fun attractions and great food options, Hillarys also has fully self-contained and serviced apartments, a great alternative to traditional hotel accommodation.

Of particular interest is AQWA, the Aquarium of Western Australia.  Go on an underwater journey along the West Australian coast from the Southern Ocean to the coral reefs of the far north.  If above water is more your thing Stillwater beach is perfect.  Keep your belongings safe while you enjoy the free waterslides by using the Baggage Storage Lockers by Smarte Carte.  They are conveniently located in the public toilet block and are available between 5 am and 8 pm, every day.  Locker hire starts from $8 for 4 hours.

Number 2 – Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour

If laidback is more your style, then a visit to the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour is a must.  The working harbour is surrounded by world-class restaurants and has Australia’s first licensed beach!  Helen recommends while you’re in Fremantle to check out local legend, Bon Scott’s statue and the Fremantle Prison.  Here you can discover the history of Western Australia’s only World Heritage-listed building through the convict era.

Number 1 – Rottnest Island

Helen’s number one pick when visiting the west is a trip to Rottnest Island.  This tourist spot was famous for years before Rodger Federer, and Chris Hemsworth took selfies with a quokka!  A tourist destination from the early 1900s, Rottnest Island, is full of unique natural attractions and activities.  One of the most popular ways to check out Rottnest is by bike. Cycle your way around the whole island, taking in the unique coastline and wildlife, including fur seals and quokkas.  Ferry’s to Rottnest leave from Perth, Fremantle and Hillarys Boat Harbour daily.  You can stay on the island too with accommodation options to suit most budgets.
