It’s Time to Celebrate Because Travellers are Back!
While not all of Australia is open to international travellers, Sydney has declared itself open! This means that many travellers are arriving in Sydney with time to spare before they transit to their destination. Don’t despair!! Even a day in Sydney will allow you to take advantage of some of its world-renowned attractions.
To get the most out of your day take advantage of our Baggage Storage stores, and store your luggage so that you can enjoy the sights without the weight. Sydney’s Central Station is Australia’s busiest train station and the main transport hub for passengers in NSW. By starting your day in Central Station you have plenty of choices as to how you can spend the day.
We asked Nick, our NSW State Manager, how he would maximise one day in Sydney. We think you’ll enjoy his recommendations.
Nick’s Day in Sydney
8am – Drop off your bags and take a short light rail down to Surry Hills and Bourke St Bakery. Much like Melbourne, Sydney loves their café scene and we are spoilt for choice with the number of great coffee houses. However, BSB is a Sydney institution and do some of the best pastries in the city.
Local tip: The Rhubarb Danish!

9am – You can explore the Surry Hills area, taking a walk up Bourke Street to see some of local shops and terrace houses along the tree-lined street, and then catch the 374 bus up to Circular Quay and the Royal Botanic Gardens. There are plenty of walking tracks, with harbour views at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair.
Local Tip: The Calyx at RBG re-opens on December 3rd with an updated exhibition. The plant wall itself is worth the visit.
11am – One of the best ways to explore the city is through Big Bus Tours. Big Bus Tours offer a hop-on-hop-off service with one ticket price for the day, so you can peruse the city at your leisure. There are 34 location stops including the blue-line Bondi service.
Local tip: If you are travelling on the weekend, and are limited for time, stick to the city route. There is plenty to see around The Rocks, which is a highlight of the city experience and Bondi Beach is always a busy spot. Big Bus Tours tickets are available to purchase at our Baggage Storage stores.
1pm – Outside dining is one of the best experiences around the city area. I would recommend The Opera Bar. On a fine day, this is one of the best locations to grab a bite to eat outdoors with fantastic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Local Tip: Grab a table with a sun umbrella option, it can get warm on a summer day!

2pm – You can’t be in Sydney for the day without utilising the ferry system. It’s a super affordable way to travel the harbour. Circular Quay is the main departure point to many Lower North Shore destinations including Manly or if you have kids, across the harbour to Luna Park.
Local Tip: The top point on the Luna Park Ferris wheel offers a great city view back across the harbour of the main Sydney landmarks.
6pm – During the Summer hours, our Central Station location has extended trading hours. You can take advantage of this and head to nearby Dixon St in Chinatown for an early dinner before you collect your bags. Another must-stop location on your travels.
Local Tip: On Fridays, Dixon St turns into a night food market. Check out what Time Out says about some great stalls to enjoy.
